Melanie vs. Mickey

It was a tough battle, but Mickey won out over a trip to Melanie's a couple weeks ago. Let me explain. I had a trip planned to Houston to visit Mel for a week with the kids. Randy and Lance were both going to be out of town, so it was the perfect girls only week. Melanie's sweet friend Ruth had already volunteered to babysit all 4 of our kids one night so we could go out...and I was looking forward to my favorite fajitas at the best mexican restaurant in Houston, Papasitos. Well after a whole day in the airport trying to get on a flight with no luck, I gave up. There were storms in Houston so they kept cancelling flights. So frustrating. I was by myself with two kids in the airport all day in uncomfortable shoes because of course I wanted to have cute shoes on when I got to Mel's. Duh. Depressed, I headed to my Dad's house. My mom was out of town, so I decided my Dad and I could sit around and be lonely together! Jack was really disappointed because I had been promising him all day we would get on an airplane. This is when my Dad came up with the brilliant plan to jump on a plane the next day to California. What? I am not a spur of the moment kind of gal...but I ran home, packed a new bag (our stuff all went to Houston), and me, the kids, my dad and little sister Katie were all on a flight that night. It ended up being a really fun week. I didn't get my fajitas or my much needed "mel" time...but I did get to see Jack's face light up in Disneyland, Halle in a swimming pool for the first time, and my relatives in California that I adore.

Here are some pictures from Disneyland...

It did not end so happy on my end. I did not get to run off to Disney World, I just got kids with fevers for 8 days straight. Would have rather had Disney. You were missed but so glad you had fun. Love those little kids, I just want to squeeze them.

How fun! I'm not so much a spontaneous person either - but those trips end up being some of the best! I love the pic of Jack on the ground - it helps me realize that my kids aren't the only ones who do that crap!

I want to be your kid. I would love to just wake up one day and say this is where we are going...but Chris could never do that. So fun. Are their ear infections better...I was wondering how the plane ride worked with that. Oh and you have a super cool dad that would be down for that.

Now that is serious spur of the moment!

So fun. I am jealous. Poor Mel. My kids are dying to go to Disneyland. SOON I hope.

Chuck is quite the spontaneous one isn't he? I remember going to Cali with your family so many years ago! We had a blast!
I don't miss those "stand by" days but I do miss the free tickets! Lucky girl!!

Well, about Sally's shower. I have to weddings that I have to do that day. So I won't be able to make it up. I would be more than happy to still make one for you guys and if Jan is coming up I'm sure she'll take it. Let me know what you think!

you have such a fun, crazy, spontaneous dad!!! Poor Mel. I totally didn't recognize Katie, you mentioned relatives in Cal, I figured she must have been one of them. Crazy. She's all grown up!

how fun! You have such a fun family. My dad would never impulsively take me to Disney Land. Lucky!
