kinda sorta swimming...

We just finished our first round of swim lessons for Jack! After what I went through with him the first 2 days, I didn't think we would make it to the end, so let me just say haleluiah! The first day: crying, screaming, holding onto my leg. The second day: teacher ripping my screaming child off my leg and forcing him to get in the water, child continuing to cry and hold on to the side of the pool. Third day: for some reason he woke up on the right side of the bed today and decided he was fine with swim lessons and jumped right in. What? I was seriously so frustrated with him, but felt so sad for him at the same time. I have never seen him this scared of something. All I can say is I know how he felt. My mom put me and K.C. in some crazy swim lessons where I swear the instructors were not trained in anything but child torture. I can remember running to the fence around the pool and grabbing onto it, and then having a teacher rip me off the fence and make me jump off the diving board. Oh then they would make us hold onto a fireman's pole and shove us down to the bottom of the pool and we were supposed to climb up the pole. Needless to say I'm not a strong swimmer...and we still give my mom crap about putting us through this! Good thing Jack was tougher than me (or maybe his teacher was just way nicer). Every day before class all the kids sat in one area and they had a "safety lesson"...stuff like no running, don't push other kids, don't poop in the pool...you know, all the basics! Jack met his new friend Avery...she was in his class. One day during their safety lesson, Avery's mom looked over and Avery had her swim top pulled up and was flashing Jack. Her mom ran over and told her not to pull her top up and she told her mom she was just showing Jack her's because she could see his. Does this stuff really start this young?I was so proud to take a picture of Jack and his certificate on the last day today, until I read what the teacher wrote on the bottom...he didn't pass this level. Dang. Oh well, he'll get it next time! Avery didn't pass either...maybe these two should have concentrated more on swimming than on flashing each other! I am proud of you buddy!
